Part 4B Asphalt of the Austroads Guide to Pavement Technology provides a recommended approach to the design and characterisation of asphalt mixes in Australia and New Zealand. However, the current approach to asphalt mix design and performance characterisation varies between road agencies and may not necessarily be adequate to take full advantage of the enhanced performance characteristics that many new asphalt technologies can provide.
Austroads is undertaking a project to identify gaps in current practice for the performance characterisation of asphalt mixes. The ultimate aim is to develop a harmonised national performance-based asphalt specification framework that would take full advantage of the enhanced performance characteristics of current and emerging asphalt technologies.
This webinar will provide you with an overview of the work undertaken to date, including:
- the benefits of a national harmonised performance-based asphalt specification framework
- a summary of the current Austroads asphalt mix design procedure
- an overview of international mix design practices
- a proposed concept performance-based specification framework
- plans to further develop and implement the framework.
