The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) continues to use a variety of reclaimed and recycled materials in highway construction. Recycled materials are used in highway construction to supplement aggregates, concrete, hot-mix asphalt (HMA), steel, and sealants, as well as for soil modification and pavement markings. This report presents the material s used in 2014, along with specific reporting on use of shingles, efforts to reduce the carbon footprint, and efforts to achieve cost savings through the use of recycled materials, as required by Illinois Public Act 097-0314.
