Two of Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)’s Every Day Counts – Round 5 (EDC-5) initiatives focus on improved transportation systems management and operations (TSMO) using innovative data collection methods.
The Weather Responsive Management Strategies (WRMS) initiative maximizes the use of mobile and connected vehicle (CV) technologies to support traffic and maintenance management strategies during inclement weather. The Crowdsourcing for Operations Initiative increases situational awareness and the quality and quantity of operations data using crowdsourcing, which enables agency staff to cost-effectively apply proactive strategies and make better decisions for safer and more reliable travel.
This joint webinar on the two initiatives explores the use of mobile applications and crowdsourced data to support weather responsive management strategies. Practitioners from Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will discuss their successes managing adverse road weather events using these data sources.Speakers and topics include:
Vince Garcia, WYDOT’s GIS/ITS Program Manager and Ali Ragan, WYDOT’s ITS Program Project Manager, will present on Wyoming’s Road Condition Reporting Application.
Lisa Miller, UDOT’s Traveler Information Manager, will present on Utah’s Citizen Reporting Program Mobile App for Winter Operations.
Randi Feltner, KYTC’s Transportation Engineering Supervisor and Chris Lambert, KYTC’s IT Data Systems SpecialistConsultant, will present on Kentucky’s use of third party data for road weather management.
